RI Imports 70,000 Tons of Corn, Farmers: No Impact

Rakyat Update. As much as 70 thousand tons of imported corn entered Indonesia last week. The corn is imported by Bulog Corporation with a quota permit of 100 thousand tons.

But unfortunately, according to the Secretary General of the Association of People's Poultry Persons (Pinsar) Leopold Halim, the entry of imports has not affected the decline in corn prices. He said that what actually affected the decline in the price of corn was actually local harvest.

If there has been a harvest in the country, then the price of new corn can be ascertained.

"The import has no effect, because corn is down or not (the price) depends on the harvest in February or not on Monday (12/17/2018).

Furthermore, he explained that the import figure of only 100 thousand tons is small compared to the need. So that it cannot affect the decline in corn prices.

Because, in a day, the need for corn for animal feed nationally is 7,000 tons.

"The import of 100 thousand tons is a little, but only 70 thousand tons are just coming in. We need one day in the figure (Rp) 7 thousand," he explained.

For information, the import decision was made to reduce the price of corn which continued to soar. Because now the supply of corn is thinning as it enters the planting period. However, Atung said, the price of corn is currently still in the range of Rp. 6,000-6,100 per kg.
